Today you can find fast food restaurant in almost every big city . In New York , Cairo , Paris , Tokyo , Kuwait and thousands of cities around the world , new fast food restaurants are opened every day . But why do people prefer fast food restaurants to more comfortable restaurants where they can sit quietly at a table and watch the world go by ?
Two things make fast food restaurants popular . Speed and price . People’s time is valuable . They may have thirty minutes for lunch . They do not want to waste a lot of time eating or preparing food . The service is fast , so they can order what they want , eat and finish in less than 15 minutes. And prices are inexpensive .
Because of the larger number of meals sold everyday in fast food restaurants , costs are kept low . Read the following passage, then answer the questions below:
17- Oxford Street
London, S.W27
England
Date: 12th Nov. 2004
Dear Hamad,
Hello , I’m very sorry because I haven’t written to you before. I’ve been very busy and I haven’t much time for writing letters. I’ve been in England for three months. There are a lot of interesting places to see here and a lot of interesting things to do. I visited the zoo, Hyde Park, the Tower of London and the National Museum. Once I took the boat down the River Thames to Hampton Court.
I shall be starting my studies at the university soon. So far, I’ve been learning about England and the British ways of living. The weather changes and is not always good. The British people talk about the weather all the time. People do not shake hands as we do in our country. Men raise their hats to women, but not to each other. When you go to a friend’s house for a meal, it’s not a custom to say ‘thanks’ at the end of the meal as we do. Here you wait until you leave, then say ‘ Thanks for the pleasant evening’ or ‘ it was very kind of you to invite me’. Many English men help their wives with the housework. Few English people have maids in their homes, so there’s always a lot of work. I’ll write again soon. Now, let me say bye.
Yours sincerely
Fahd

Cities nowadays are not suitable for modern living because houses are close to each other. They are unhealthy because sun and air don't enter through the widows , the noise of the traffic and factories make the air polluted .Many accidents happen, that's why many people die .Some people think that cities of the future will be more pleasant and comfortable. People will live in blocks of flats in them . There will be no private villas or gardens. The wide roads and streets will be kept away from living areas. Shopping centers will be away from traffic areas , because in these living areas cars aren't important. Therefore, there will be no transport problems or accidents.
So cities are always changing .Bus stop are moved ,new shops may open, old buildings are broken down and new ones built in their place. The number of people living in a city also changes. In many countries the cities are growing very fast .

B) Second passage
Read the following passage then answer the question below:
Most of us lead unhealthy lives. First, we spend too much time sitting down. Secondly, we are careless about our diets. The result is that our bodies soon become fat and week. There are many unhealthy things that we cannot avoid such as pollution, noise, quick meals, and stress. But keeping fit is one way to minimize the consequences of such evils.
The solution usually suggested to a person who wants to keep fit is to take up some sport or other. It is true that every weekend you will find some people playing football , but those who are only watching them are greater in number. Getting fit means playing the game not watching it. For those who do not like football, there is cycling, walking, and swimming. What often happens is that people practise sport leisurely and by this they may not be doing themselves any good. Any sport has to be rigorous and regular before we can expect it to help us keep fit and healthy.
Some experts say that sport alone is only half the answer to good health. According to them, the other half is mental and physical relaxation. This can only be achieved through Yoga and meditation. In conclusion, good health means both physical effort and mental relaxation.
